February 2, 2026, my 7-minute chaplain message at our monthly CMA chapter meeting
The meaning of life, our purpose in it, and what happens when we die
Easy answers for the three toughest questions in life
OPENING: John 10:10: "I [Jesus] am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
INTRODUCTION: For those who are unsaved (or not "Born Again" or who don't know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord, Savior and Friend), the three toughest questions in life are "why was I born?," "what is the meaning of life?," and "how does the story end?" To those who are saved, these are the three of the easiest questions in life because the mysteries/secrets of the Bible become unlocked to them.
- Luke 10:21: Jesus said, "...I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children..."
- And who are the "little children"? Two examples:
- Galatians 5:22-23: Those who possess the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control..."
- Proverbs 6:16-19: But NOT those who practice what God hates:
- Haughty [proud or arrogant] eyes
- A lying tongue
- Hands that shed innocent blood
- A heart that devises wicked schemes
- Feet that are quick to rush into evil
- A false witness who pours out lies
- And a person who stirs up conflict in the commnity
- And when is it revealed to them? Luke 10:22: "...and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him," which possibly is the moment of being saved
- What is the meaning of life?
- Ecclesiastes 12:13 & Mark 12:29-31: "Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind ... "The most important one, answered Jesus, is this ... Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these."
- (And this includes the 10 Commandments, which are still just as applicable today as when they were carved on the stone tablets.)
- Why were we born?
- As Christians, aside from fellowship with God, it's to carry out Jesus' "Great Commission"
- Matthew 28:18-20: "Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.'
- 1 Peter 4:10: "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms."
- In my case, to use the two spiritual gifts God gave me--computing (being online and working audio-visual (A/V) for churches) and motorcycling (in-person through the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA))--to "plant good seeds" via sharing the Gospel, listening to others in need and praying with them in order for God to "give the increase" (work on their heart) to open their eyes and accept the eternal gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.
- What happens when we die?
- John 16:33 & Revelation 21:1-4: And the story ends with knowing where we will go if we "die tonight" ... and that Jesus has overcome the world [meaning He conquered death, hell and the grave]
- Matthew 25:34-41: At Judgment Day, there are only two destinations for which all of us will have decided which one, through our words and actions: the path to Heaven or the path to the lake of fire burning with sulfur and brimstone where the smoke of those tormented will ascend forever and ever and ever and ever, with no exit or ending, ever!
- Revelation 21:1-4: In the end, both good and evil will be judged, the earth will pass away and a new earth and Jerusalem will be where God and His people will dwell together forever, with no more death, crying or pain
CLOSER
- The target audience for this message is primarily the saved Christian warriors in order to better arm them with ready words should they be stopped on the street and asked these questions
- 1 Peter 3:15: This also includes, "and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear."
